About The Temple

On May 24, 2015, at Uthandi, Chennai, Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayanandaji opened Chinmaya Tarangini in honor of Gurudev Swami Chinmayanandaji’s 100th birthday.

Speaking at the Sri Matsyanarayana Dhyana Niketan’s Mahasamprokshanam, Pujya Guruji stated that the site where the temple now stands was given to the Chinmaya Mission more than 25 years ago. Since constructing this temple, we have learned that Matsya Bhagavan has selected this location for his residence during this unique centennial year.

According to Guruji, the Matsya Avatara (Perumal avatar) is covered in one chapter of the Bhagavatham, and the Matsya Purana as a whole contains the teachings and narrative of Matsya. Since this is the Vaivasvata Manvantra or the reign of the Manu Vaivasvata, we should have this temple today. Vaivasvata Manu, also known as Satyavrata, was informed of the impending cosmic deluge by the heavenly fish. It requested that Manu construct a large ship and contain the seeds of creation within it. The fish instructed Satyavrata to attach the boat to its horn when the foretold deluge eventually materialized, and they proceeded to swim in the deluge’s waters together. This is the reasonMatsya Narayana temple in Chennaiwas formed.
