Samayapuram Mariamman Temple

Many of the most revered shrines of Goddess Mariamman are located in Tamil Nadu. Among the Shakthi temples spread out over the country, Samayapuram Temple Trichy is recognized as one of the most notable residences of Goddess Mariamman. According to the temple’s documented history, King Vijayaraya Chakkaravarthi erected the current structure of the temple at the beginning of the 18th century. However, it is generally accepted that the local rural population of this area venerated the Goddess for many centuries before the construction of the temple.

The presiding deity was really from the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, according to legend! The goddess idol, according to the temple priest, made him feel ill. Then he requested that the Goddess idol be taken out of the temple.

It is firmly held that because Goddess Mariamman is a rural deity with great divine power, appropriate poojas, sacrifices, and gifts to Shakthi should be done. The Goddess was retrieved after being removed from Srirangam Temple by several individuals, who then built a suitable temple and named it the Kannanur Mariamman temple. The Vijayanagara Empire was in charge at the time Trichy was controlled. The kings of Vijayanagara promised the Goddess that if they won the war, they would build the temple. The Trichy Samayapuram Mariamman Temple is currently run by a separate trust that is under the control of the Tamil Nadu government.
