Thiruparankundram Murugan TempleThiruparankundram Murugan Temple, one of a rock cut temple, is located at a distance of 8 KM from the Madurai. This is considered to be the first “Arupadaiveedu” among Six Abodes of Lord Murugan who graces in a sitting posture (wedding form) with his consort Goddess Deivanai. The images of Maharishi Naradha, Brahma, Surya, Chandra, Indra, Sridevi and Bhoodevi are being carved on the walls, which adorn the interiors of Thiruparankundram Temple. Brahmi inscriptions are other noteworthy features features found in Thiruparankundram Temple. The exquisite sculpture of Sivathandavan (dancing posture) is very impressive.

There is a separate shrine for Viswanathar and Visalakshi near the spring. A special place will be given to the Nakkeerar shrine. In addition, there are also sculptures of 4 Shivalingaas, Kasi Vishwanatha, Lord Shiva Idol, Subramaniar, Bhairava, Ambica and Karpaga Vinayaka. Another interesting feature is Panchakshara Cave where you will get holy dip in the “Saravana Poigai”. In the front hall Mandap, you will see the sculptures of 9 soldiers. In the Shanmuga Mandap, a shrine for garuda ,who is the vehicle of Lord vishnu, is found in front of the shrine of Lord Vishnu. Unlike other temples, lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are facing each other. White peacocks can also be seen here. An idol of Lord Dakshinamurthy is found graced with his left hand. You will see an individual shrine for Lord Shiva in the name of Aadhi Sokkanathar that portrays the penance performed during the teaching of Pranava Mantra. There is also a devi Lingam behind which lord Muruga is graced as Somaskanda together with Lord Shiva and Parvathi inside the Sanctum Sanctorum. In the Maha Mandap of this Murugan Temple, A big sized Nandi is seen with his spouse kalakandi. Lord Durga has her own Flag post and also a Main-tower Rajagopuram in the temple.
